Activist!Lance is making things right & Congrats to Kathy Griffin!
If you’re not a fan of Lance on Facebook, go there and get that taken care of TODAY! Lance is speaking out against a recent cancellation of a prom in Mississippi because a lesbian couple planned to attend. He is LIVID and is issuing a call to action!
If you don’t know the story, here’s some background from CNN.com:
A Mississippi high school faces a lawsuit over its decision to cancel its prom rather than allow a lesbian high school student to attend with her girlfriend.
The lawsuit, filed by the American Civil Liberties Union, alleges that officials at Itawamba Agricultural High School in Fulton, Mississippi, are violating the student’s First Amendment right to freedom of expression.
The ACLU asked the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Mississippi to reinstate the prom.
“All I wanted was the same chance to enjoy my prom night like any other student. But my school would rather hurt all the students than treat everyone fairly,” said the student, 18-year-old Constance McMillen, in an ACLU news release. “This isn’t just about me and my rights anymore — now I’m fighting for the right of all the students at my school to have our prom.” [ Read more at CNN]
In response to many people saying he should host a prom, Lance responded:
In other Lance news, Lance (and his hair) were on hand last night to honor “Friend of Lance” Kathy Griffin at the Human Rights Campaign, LA Dinner and Gala. Lance announced her as ‘his favorite straight‘. Kathy responded with some compliments of her own (that we won’t repeat here but were funny, as only Kathy can be). The entire Gala was filmed for Kathy’s Bravo TV show, My Life on the D-List, so watch for Lance and this special episode. Her speech was incredibly moving and in light of everything that Lance is doing for gay rights, incredibly fitting! Congratulations, Kathy!
