JC Chasez on Ryan Seacrest: How Justin Reunited *NSYNC
JC Chasez Dishes on How Justin Timberlake Reunited *NSYNC
JC Chasez, who joined the boys and Justin Timberlake onstage on Sunday, phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about the much-hyped reunion and cleared up whether or not we will see the boys getting back together officially. But first, we’re dying to know how it all was initiated.
“You know, it was a matter of time. Everybody would ask us, ‘When are you guys going to do something?’” JC explains. “First of all, it was the worst kept secret ever, [but] Justin gave me a buzz and he said, ‘Hey man, listen. I’m getting this award and they have given me a pile of time to perform and we started our careers at MTV and I think we should get the band back together.’”
The boy band member adds that the reunion was mainly, in the group’s eyes, for Justin. “It really was about him and all that he’s accomplished, but he wanted to acknowledge that part of his career so we all decided to do it.” So what was it like once all five guys were together rehearsing again? “Literally, two minutes after seeing everybody you feel like no time has passed,” JC admits. “Essentially everybody has remained the same and we all see each other at different times … but this was the first time we had a rehearsal together in 10 years, so everyone was going, ‘Can we go through this one more time slowly?’… so that part was pretty funny.”
What wasn’t too funny was attempting to keep the reunion a secret. “When J called me he’s like, ‘Lets really make it a treat and let’s not tell anybody,” says JC, laughing. “I don’t know if there are cameras in the ceiling or whatever but … we were in rehearsal and Lance walked in and said, ‘Well everybody knows now’… and we were like, ‘How in the world did they figure it out?!’”
And once people did, Twitter went in to a *NSYNC frenzy. When the boys decided to join the social media site, it was officially on.
“It was one of the conversations. Twitter didn’t exist when we were dong our thing back in the day and we were like we should probably get that.”
As for the question everyone wants to know, will we see an *NSYNC reunion tour?! JC unfortunately shares: “No … Look, again … it was just about five guys who were great friends who spent 10 or 15 years together touring and we … wanted to give that back to our fans, but we were there mainly to support Justin.”
And although we will still secretly hope they’ve got something planned up their sleeve, in the meantime we can start to obsess over a new group JC is behind. “I’m working on a new pop girl group,” he explains. “It’s a project called Girl Radical and the whole idea is to create a community of artists and that’s why as of right now the group has 11 members … It’s a super-sized, amped-up, positive energy pop group.”
